Ashok (A.J.) A. Kumar earned a B.S. in Physics from Stanford University in 2007 and a PhD in Applied Physics from Harvard University in 2014 as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Research Fellow. From 2007-2009, he served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in a rural village in South Africa. In 2014, he was selected as a Harvard Horizon's Scholar for his work leading the development of a rapid test for sickle cell disease and the evaluation of the device in the field in Zambia. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology working with Prof. George M. Whitesides working on point-of-care diagnostics. Outside of science and global health, he enjoys rock climbing, hiking, cycling, and experimenting in the kitchen..
